If you are a Christian, and you believe that the Bible is the absolute truth of God. Then you must be aware of what’s happening in our country; at this point in our history. If you are over the age of 50 years, then you can look back over the historic time that you have lived and see the difference in our way of life. Our culture has changed significantly since I was a child, some changes are good and some are bad. When I was in my 40’s I used to think that the good changes outweighed the bad. Now that I am well past my 60’s I see the pendulum swinging further toward the bad.
After living through the 1960’s and the drug culture with its flower power, I’ve realized that we (Americans) have become quite violent, un-Christian, bullies and self-absorbed drama kings & queens. We have become a nation with an entitlement mentality. Many think they’re better, smarter, and more worthy of king & queen status and treatment than anyone else on the planet.
America has become a cultural melting pot with many politicians believing that we should take care of everyone who happens to make it into this country legally or illegally. Some Americans have the belief that we should take care of everyone. We are teaching the people who immigrate to America that we will accept them and their belief system; that we will provide them free food, free education, free housing, and free legal assistance for them if we don’t provide all these benefits. We have allowed the overwhelming mass of minorities (Asian, Mexican, European and Muslims) to legislate what is acceptable to the majority of the people in this country [natural born citizens], to the point that the majority are presumed to be bigots, racists, and every kind of phobic. We are no longer Americans. We have become a land of hyphenated Americans: Asian-American; Mexican-American; Cuban-American; African-American; European-American; Muslim-American; Vietnamese-American; Latino’s and American-Indian). Why can’t we just be Americans united? Why do people choose to divide themselves from the rest.
We are no longer “One Nation Under God.” We are many nations under one Government that cannot decide who they are legislating for. We have gotten to the point that “those who complain the loudest, or can contribute the most to political campaigns, get what they want.
We have become a nation of whiners, complainers, bullies, and violent criminals in attempt to get our way. The innocent people being subjected to this mentality are the ones who get hurt, maimed, and/or murdered. When innocent people are killed, maimed, or lose their life savings via loss of the family business to rioting and looting, the perpetrators always blame the destruction on someone else, or the circumstances they grew up in.
It has become a blame game with people who refuse to accept personal responsibility for their decisions, their words, and their actions. I believe that this is happening because for the last 60 years we have systematically allowed God & Jesus Christ to be removed from our daily lives by un-Christian groups like the ACLU and a variety of others adhering to similar philosophies. We’ve allowed socialist bullies to overwhelm the legal system with litigious falsehood to the point of removing any trace of God, Jesus Christ, & the Holy Spirit from our daily lives. We have lost our moral compass and our ethical values; we have given up on maintaining our “One Nation Under God” mindset.
All of this has been prophesied in the Bible; let’s look at what God’s Word says about the times we are now living in: We’ll start from the beginning.
“And God said, ‘Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and years: And let them be for lights in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth: and it was so.’” (Genesis 1:14-15 KJV)
The Hebrew word for signs is: 'ôth (oth)—Meaning:
a signal (literally or figuratively), as in a big red flag, a beacon, monument, omen, prodigy, evidence, a mark, a miracle, an ensign, or a token.
The Hebrew word for seasons is: yâ‛ad (yaw-ad') Meaning:
to fix upon by agreement or appointment; by implication to meet at a stated time, to summon to a trial, to direct in a certain quarter or position, to engage in marriage for example: to agree, to make an appointment, set a definite time, assemble yourselves, betroth or commit to a relationship, gather yourselves together, meet together, set a time.
God is not saying here that you can manage your agricultural business by the stars as demonstrated in the Farmer’s Almanac. He’s saying that according to the Hebrew’s calendar of days, months, and years; and the positions of these stars and planets one can be aware of when God may intervene in man’s affairs. If we monitor these signs and seasons throughout history we may be able to become more aware of the times when God might intervene in our lives relative to past history. For example; when things happen on Holy Days set by God with the Hebrews. Also, we might be able to determine how these signs and seasons line up with biblical prophecy to make us aware of when God is about ready to intervene in our current history.
However, if we are not aware of what the Bible teaches, we will not even concern ourselves with things such as God, Jesus, Prophecy, Sin, Forgiveness, Grace, or Eternity. As Christians, Jesus commissioned us all, to tell the world about Him, until He returns to bring us into eternity with Him. “Then Jesus came to them [the Christians] and said, ‘All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples [students of His teachings] of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.’” (Matthew 28:18-20 NIV).
We must all study the Bible so that we can determine the signs and the seasons in relationship to what’s going on in the world around us. This is how we, as God’s Children and Jesus’ disciples, will know how to; and when to, prepare for Jesus’ “Second Coming.” Jesus tells us this about the Second Coming: “However, no one knows the day or hour when these things will happen, not even the angels in heaven or the Son himself. Only the Father knows.” (Matthew 24:36; NLT). We may not know the exact day or hour that he will be coming back for us, but we can observe the signs and seasons so that we can begin preparing for His imminent return. If we aren’t prepared, we will be left behind to go through the “Seven Years of Tribulation.”
Let me share some excerpts from one of our great modern day prophets: Jonathan Cahn, he is a Messianic Jewish Rabbi and pastor, he is best known for his bestselling novel The Harbinger in which he compares the United States and the September 11 attacks, to ancient Israel and the destruction of Kingdom of Israel. In particular he sees Isaiah 9:10 as a prophetic warning to the United States.
Jonathan Cahn says:
1. Watch U.S.—Israel Relations: The “Tree of Hope”, a spruce or cedar that in the Bible symbolizes a nation’s strength, was planted at Ground Zero in New York following 9/11 but it withered and died. It was finally uprooted on Passover 2014.
a. “The relations between America and Israel are at their worst. This is a dangerous sign for America. We are now pressing for a deal that Israel says will put them in danger.
b. All these things: Israel, the harbingers, the apostasy, the Shemitah Year, (Sabbath Year; 7 year cycle), and the Tetrad— Four Blood Moons occurring Spring and Fall (2014 & 2015) on the Holy Days of God’s chosen people.
i. Passover in the Spring, April 15, 2014 and April 4, 2015
ii. Feast of Tabernacles in the Fall, Oct. 8, 2014 and Sept. 28, 2015
c. All of these things are converging and we need to take heed and be prepared.
2. The Pope is Coming to the United States: The 266th Pope (Francis) is coming to the United States to meet with President Obama on Sept. 23rd, the 266th day of the year. He will address a joint session of Congress on Sept. 24th and then deliver a keynote speech Sept. 25th at the UN in New York. The Pope has already called for the need for Global Government (One World Government) to fight climate change, and poverty. This Global Agenda is titled “Transforming Our World: 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.”
a. The Senate is also under a deadline to approve the Iran Nuclear Deal by the end of September 2015
3. Cahn implores those concerned about the Shemitah not to focus on dates: But on getting their own houses in order. He offers practical advice on how to prepare for the coming “shaking,” both physically and spiritually. He said he gives dates in his book “The Mystery of the Shemitah” to show that God often works, especially in economic matters, according to the seven-year cycle given to Moses at Mt. Sinai and recorded in the Bible book of Deuteronomy.
a. Cahn says: “While this is something to be aware of, the sign- of-the-times, the bigger issue for America is
that judgment is imminent. The U.S. clearly “crossed a line,” he said, with the Supreme Court decisions on
abortion, removing prayer from schools and most recently in its arrogant redefinition of the God-given
covenant of marriage.”
b. He says: “The first caution is, God doesn’t have to do anything. He is sovereign. He doesn’t have to work
according to our understanding, He is beyond our understanding. Nothing has to happen in September or
the autumn. It could be very uneventful, and if nothing happens, well then what will we do? We will praise
God, we will be bold for the Lord, we will spread the gospel, we will stand as witnesses for God and we will
glorify His name.”
c. He says that God hasn’t given him any secret knowledge as to what, if anything, will happen on or near the date of Sept. 13 or Elul 29, the once-every-seven years biblical day of reckoning when all debts and credits were wiped clean.
4. Cahn says to prepare with essentials for body and soul. How does judgment come upon a nation hell-bent on going its own way without God?
a. It can come with man-made and natural disasters, wars or a slow descent into irrelevancy.
b. On the last two Shmeitahs, on the exact same biblical “day of remission,” which is Elul 29 on the Hebrew calendar; came record stock-market collapses.
5. He talks about a final “desecration” that brings judgment:
a. This summer, America crossed the line, beyond any line ever crossed before, referring to the June 26
Supreme Court case legalizing same-sex marriage in all 50 states. “When the Supreme Court struck down
the biblical definition of marriage, this was a tectonic event, a seismic change, with ramifications not just
about marriage but about the future of the culture, of society, of religious freedom, of persecution, and I
believe, judgement,” he said.
I believe that Rabbi Cahan is correct when he says that the “Middle Ground is disappearing.” As Christians we can no longer just take the middle of the road approach to our faith. We are either going to be “For God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit”, or we are going to be against them. We will have to take a stand on what we believe and stand firm. Jesus said: “If anyone is ashamed of me and my message in these adulterous and sinful days, the Son of Man will be ashamed of that person when he returns in the glory of his Father with the holy angels." (Mark 8:38, NIV)
Notice Jesus said that He will be returning, just as many of the prophets said He would.
Jesus himself said: “Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me. My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. You know the way to the place where I am going.”
If you don’t know the place where Jesus is going, maybe you should pick up a Bible and at least read the New Testament, including Revelation.
It’s time for us to get our own lives in order with the teachings of our Lord & Savior, Jesus Christ. I’d like to give you some questions to ponder for yourself:
1. Are you going to be ready when Jesus returns for you?
2. Where are you in your preparation for Jesus’ return?
3. Are you following Jesus teachings or the teachings of this world?
4. Do you really believe Jesus is coming back for you?
John 14:6 “Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.’“
John 14:23-24 “Jesus replied, “Anyone who loves me will obey my teaching. My Father will love them, and we will come to them and make our home with them. Anyone who does not love me will not obey my teaching. These words you hear are not my own; they belong to the Father who sent me."
